Teresa Barberio is research associate at the Mercator-Institute in the Language and Learning Department since 2021. She coordinates the project Language Skills of Newly Immigrated Students in Mainstream Education and accounts for the subprojects Language Awareness of Newly Immigrated Students and Cross-linguistic Skills of Newly Immigrated Students

In her research and teaching she focuses on second language acquisition, multiliteracy and language contact. Previously, Teresa Barberio studied Linguistics at the University of Pisa and the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg and worked as a research associate at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, i.a. in the research project Mehrschriftlichkeit at the Institute for German as a Foreign Language and in the coordination of the Graduate School Language & Literature. At the same University she completed her PhD in Applied Linguistics.
