Language and Professional Development

Abdullah Bakkar has been a research associate at the Mercator Institute since February 2023 and a member of the management board of the ZMI – Zentrum für Mehrsprachigkeit und Integration (Center for Multilingualism and Integration). In 2006 he completed his bachelor's degree in English language and literature at Alfurat University and in 2010 his master's degree in linguistics at Aleppo University. Until 2015 he worked at various schools and universities in Syria, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Since 2016 he has been leading various seminars in the field of intercultural educational research at the University of Cologne. At the same time, he has worked as a teacher in the school sector. From 2018 to 2021 he also participated in the ERASMUS+ university partnership R/EQUAL - Requalification of (Recently) Immegrated Refugee Teachers in Europe.
